Hurricanes Under 16 tournament and education workshop

More than 250 young players will spend four days at a Hurricanes Under 16 Tournament and an Education Workshop in Gisborne where they will receive some top level tutelage.

Teams from the throughout the Hurricanes region, including East Coast, Poverty Bay, Hawke's Bay, Manawatu, Whanganui, Horowhenua-Kapiti, Wairarapa Bush and Wellington will be in attendance with games kicking off on Monday, September 30.

The first two days of the tournament features matches across two divisions while Wednesday will be spent with the players attending an education workshop and to ensure players realise the importance of professional and personal development off the rugby field.

The education workshop will feature presentations on physical preparation, mental skills and nutrition.

"We think it is just as important that parents have the opportunity to see first hand what is on offer so we've encouraged as many as possible to attend," Hurricanes recruitment and development manager Darren Larsen said.

"Our purpose is to promote our kids to look forward and see what education and work opportunities are available and how rugby works alongside this."

Finals day across both divisions will be held on Thursday, October 3.
