The brightest young prospects in the Hurricanes region are coming together for three Hurricanes U18 Regional Development Camps.

In total, 149 players from Wellington, Hawke’s Bay, Manawatu, Wairarapa Bush, Horowhenua-Kapiti, Whanganui, and Poverty Bay will feature across three two-day camps to be held across the Hurricanes region.

The first two camps have taken place this week, a 43-man camp in Napier, featuring 34 players from Hawke’s Bay and nine from Poverty Bay, with a 53-man camp in being held in  Palmerston North – comprised of players from Manawatu, Horowhenua-Kapiti, and Whanganui.

The third and final Wellington camp featuring 53 players from Wellington and Wairarapa Bush, from Tuesday (9th July) at Maidstone Park.

Collectively, 29 schools and six clubs are represented throughout the 2025 Hurricanes U18 Regional Development Camp cohort.

Hurricanes Recruitment and Development Manager, Darren Larsen, has thanked the regions’ age-grade selectors, who helped bring together such a large pool of talented players together for a development opportunity.

“These camps will provide players with insights into professional rugby,” Larsen said.

“That includes position-specific coaching, off-field growth, and personal leadership with a focus on rugby skills, physical conditioning, mindset, and nutrition pillars.

“This co-branded approach to each camp also has a focus on player retention for each of province, as well as the Hurricanes and New Zealand Rugby pathways.”

The Hurricanes will name an U18 squad on September 10 for a five-day camp to be held from September 30 to October 4, which includes a match against the Crusaders U18 side on October 3.
