Bailyn Sullivan recommits to the Hurricanes through 2024

The Hurricanes have today announced that midfielder Bailyn Sullivan has recommitted to the Club through 2024.

Sullivan linked up with the Hurricanes ahead of the 2022 season, following three seasons with the Chiefs, debuting against the Crusaders in round one of the 2022 Super Rugby Pacific competition.

On recommitting to the Hurricanes, Sullivan said he was thrilled to stay with the club for another two seasons.

“I’m really enjoying the Canes whānau, and the culture, so I’m happy to be able to extend for another two seasons. It’s a great group of players and coaches.”

Hurricanes Head Coach Jason Holland said he was delighted to extend Sullivan the opportunity to stay in the Hurricanes environment for another two seasons.

“It's brilliant that Bailyn has recommitted. Last season he went from strength to strength, playing 12 of 15 rounds.

“He had limited opportunities in Super Rugby until last season, and he worked really hard, which obviously paid off when he was named in the Māori All Blacks and All Blacks XV. He is really developing as a player, he’s fast and powerful and has the ability to beat defenders and offload.”

Sullivan grew up in Napier, where he attended Napier Boys High School for four years before making the move to Auckland's King's College.

He was a member of the New Zealand U20s team that finished 4th in the junior World Cup in France in 2018. In the U20s, Sullivan impressed, scoring a length of the field try from kick-off against Japan in their 67-0 opening victory in Narbonne.

He then made the move to Hamilton and progressed into Waikato's premier club scene with Hamilton Marist, while working closely with the Chiefs development squad in his first year out of school.

Sullivan made his Super Rugby debut in the Chiefs 61-10 victory over the Sunwolves in Tokyo in 2018, before moving to the Hurricanes in 2022.

He made his Māori All Blacks debut off the bench against Ireland in Hamilton in 2022. It was a special occasion for the Sullivan family, as it was the first time both he and brother Zarn had ever played in the same side.
