David Smith was one of many players to leave New Zealand rugby too early.

A dynamic wing who had strength and pace, Smith was first drafted itno the Hurricanes in 2007 after starting his provincial career in Auckland as a teenager.

A move to Taranaki pay dividends and he returned to the Hurricanes in 2009 when he was a first choice on the wing - going on to make 34 appearances.

He moved to France and ended up playing 99 times for Toulon before a shift to Castres in 2015.
