The Hurricanes are set to renew their Anzac rivalry with the Brumbies in Christchurch next year as Super Rugby Pacific takes Super Round to One New Zealand Stadium.

In the first major sporting event to be held at the new stadium, Super Round 2026 will pit the Hurricanes against the Brumbies in an Anzac Day clash as both sides open the latest chapter in the annual contest for the Captain Shout Cup.

Introduced last year, the Captain Shout Cup is a trophy named in honour of Captain Alfred Shout VC, MC, a hero of Gallipoli who was born in Wellington and served the New Zealand and Australian military with distinction.

The trophy is competed for on a yearly basis between the Hurricanes and Brumbies during each Super Rugby Pacific regular season.

The Hurricanes are the reigning Captain Shout Cup holders after defeating the Brumbies 35-29 in last year’s inaugural fixture at GIO Stadium in Canberra.

Symbolising the enduring legacy of Anzac spirit, the Captain Shout Cup is up for grabs in Christchurch on Anzac Day next year as Super Round is reinstated for the first time since 2024.

“It's great to see Super Round back,” Hurricanes head coach Clark Laidlaw said.

"All the teams really enjoyed it when it was in Melbourne - even better that it's in New Zealand. We had a look at One New Zealand Stadium last year. It's right in the middle of the city and it'll make for a great weekend.

"Playing for the Captain Shout Cup, we really enjoyed it last year. We'd done a fair bit around the Anzacs and what Captain Shout had done, and spending that week in Canberra against the Brumbies was a really cool week.

“We'll try to win the cup again and keep it in Wellington. It should be a great weekend in the new stadium. We're really excited by it.”

With all Round 11 fixtures to be played under the One New Zealand Stadium roof between 24-26 April, Super Rugby Pacific chief executive Jack Mesley is excited about the return of Super Round to the competition.

“Super Round is a celebration of what makes Super Rugby Pacific special,” Super Rugby Pacific chief executive Jack Mesley said.

“Fans can expect fast-paced rugby, classic rivalries, and an electric stadium atmosphere as supporters across the Pacific come together to celebrate Super Round.

“Hosting this event in О̄tautahi Christchurch is a fantastic way to showcase the best of our competition. We’re excited to work with the city and the Crusaders to deliver something unforgettable.”

The full Super Round schedule, with kick-off times, and the full draw for the 2026 Super Rugby Pacific season will be announced in due course.
