Hurricanes Jersey 2024

The Hurricanes have unveiled our jerseys for 2024.

With new apparel partner Classic now on board, The Hurricanes and Hurricanes Poua recently embarked on a journey to develop a jersey that represented our identity and our region.

We started by digging deep into creating an understanding of our team narratives around:

  • Team culture and values
  • Team heritage and legacy
  • Connections between fans and our teams
  • Connections between the teams and the wider community in our regions
  • Cultural meaning around the Hurricanes and winds.

After interviews and workshops with team management; representatives from the Hurricanes and Poua; kaumatua Luke Rowe; finding out what being a Hurricane meant to former players such as Bull Allen and Christian Cullen; and asking fans why they supported the Hurricanes – we came up with key themes that reflected who the Hurricanes are:

  • Connection/belonging to a diverse whānau that enables self-expression
  • A unique brand of rugby that is: Exciting, Dynamic, Unpredictable, Instinctive, Creative, and Innovative
  • Embodiments of the energy and power of Tāwhirimātea and Hurutea-ā-rangi, the mighty atua (gods) of the winds
  • Like a hurricane, a combination of calm and chaos
  • An inspiring & uplifting heritage / legacy to build upon
  • Relentlessness, Determination, and Outwork, to outlast.

The Hurricanes and Hurricanes Poua see themselves as manifestations of the shifting winds and unstoppable force of a hurricane. Living extensions of Tāwhirimātea and Hurutea-ā-rangi, mighty atua (gods) of the winds.

Tāwhirimātea’s spirit and energy flow through each and every Hurricane. His power, ingenuity and relentlessness are the foundations of our style of rugby.

Our 2024 jersey hikuaua (pattern) designs show the unmatched power of a hurricane and how Tāwhirimātea and Hurutea-ā-rangi inspire our unique and exciting brand of rugby.

Our region also holds together a rich diversity of people, including Māori and Pasifika, who have gone on to proudly represent the teams our club have.

The traditional Māori and Pasifika designs you’ll see across the jersey express the Hurricanes’ creative juxtaposition of calm and chaos, the strength and freedom that comes from their connection to whānau, and a relentless, swirling energy to overcome any obstacle.

We are one whānau, made up of people spread across all our Provincial Unions – Wellington, Wairarapa-Bush, Horowhenua-Kapiti, Manawatu, Hawke’s Bay, Whanganui, East Coast and Poverty Bay.

Our stories, which give us strength, and our jerseys, reflect all of this. We will represent our region, our Hurricanes whānau, and wear our jerseys with pride!

Jerseys will be available for purchase soon!
