Hurricanes Hunters impress in win over Japan A

The Hurricanes Hunters have put together an impressive performance to beat Japan A 52-31 at Jerry Collins Stadium in Porirua on Friday afternoon.

The win, which maintains the side's unbeaten run in 2019, was a complete team performance built around their ability to work together and play effectively from all areas of the field.

However, things did not start well for the Hunters after they failed to take the kick-off and were soon under pressure with Japan A scoring from a lineout drive.

Far from fazed, the Hunters attacked on both sides of the ruck before wing Mark Telea latched on to a cross-kick to score.

Some excellent work from halfback Finlay Christie helped set up wing Salesi Rayasi for the first of his two tries as he proved a handul given any space.

The open nature of the match continued for the remainder of the half as both sides traded tries as the Hunters went to the break with a 28-19 lead.

The introduction of Peter Umaga-Jensen in the second half had an immediate benefit as he scored an impressive try to take the Hunters out to a 35-19 before Teariki Ben-Nicholas crossed for his second to make the game safe.

Xavier Numia and Fletcher Smith added tries while the latter also landed six conversions.
