The Hurricanes have announced the departure of 8 players at the end of the 2025 season.

54 cap Peter Umaga-Jensen, who joined the club in 2018, departs for Japan. 

Hurricanes coach Clark Laidlaw said, “Everyone at the club wishes him all the best, and we look forward to keeping in touch and welcoming him back to the club whenever he’s back in Wellington.” 

Other players departing include:

  • Zach Gallagher - #324 (9 caps)
  • Will Tucker - #320 (7 caps)
  • Riley Hohepa - #308, (12 caps)
  • Daniel Sinkinson - #309 (6 caps)
  • Kade Banks - #321 (2 caps)
  • Lucas Cashmore
  • Josh Taula

Highlights this season included: 

  • Zach Gallagher 8 starts
  • Will Tucker 7 appearances off the bench
  • Riley Hohepa 10 matches scoring 21 points (6 conversions, 3 pens)
  • Daniel Sinkinson 1 appearance, starting against the Reds in R15
  • Kade Banks 2 appearances including 1 start (Blues R3)

Josh Taula and Lucas Cashmore depart without a Hurricanes cap.

Hurricanes CEO Avan Lee said,” We would like to acknowledge the players that are leaving. They have all contributed to the club in 2025, and we wish them all the best for their future endeavours. I will also make special mention of Peter Unaga-Jensen. Peter has been a fantastic player for us and we hope that Japan is a great experience for him and his young family.
