Billy Proctor : C60

Billy Proctor is looking forward to establishing himself in the Hurricanes.

The 19-year-old, who signed the single longest contract in Hurricanes history near the back end of 2018 when he agreed to a deal through until the end of 2023, made his Investec Super Rugby debut off the bench against the Waratahs in Sydney.

While another opportunity to add to his appearance tally has not yet arisen, Proctor always knew 2019 would be a season stacked with learning.

“I’m just trying to get through the work I have to do now and taking it day by day,” he said.

Wellington born and bred, Proctor has looked on as older brother Matt has established himself at the club, going on to make more than 50 appearances.

Another Hurricanes player who was taught the value of hard work growing up, Proctor spent countless hours at the park with his brothers throwing various forms of balls around.

Educated at St Patrick’s College, one of Proctor’s favourite memories he left with was winning the Wellington secondary schools title in his second-to-last year.

Proctor did not have to wait long to be involved with the Hurricanes after leaving college as the national age-group representative was called in to train with the squad as injury cover.

“It made coming in as a contracted player a lot easier because I already knew most of the boys,” he said.

Aside from rugby, Proctor is another squad member who really enjoys getting on to a basketball court or even just under a hoop.

And the one piece of advice from Matt that he has found the most useful?

“Just put your head down and do the work, that’s pretty much it,” he said.
