Part of the historic 1996 winning All Blacks side in South Africa, Northland lock Glenn Taylor was drafted to the Hurricanes in 1998, and played in every match. The hard-working Taylor had also played in every match for the Chiefs in 1997, whom he started with in 1996. He also played for the Blues in 1999 and 2001-2002 and turned out for the Chiefs in between in 2000 as captain, and again in 2003.

But it was playing for Northland that Taylor is most remembered for, as a veteran of 143 matches, many as captain, for 14 often-tumultuous seasons for far north rugby between 1990-2003.

For the All Blacks he played once in 1992 in an infamous loss to Sydney, and four times in South Africa four years later. He made his one and only test appearance as a substitute in the final international in Johannesburg in 1996.

Other representative honours included: New Zealand Colts 1991, New Zealand XV in 1992 and 1994, New Zealand Divisional XV in 1994 a New Zealand Vikings XV (as captain) against Scotland in 2000, New Zealand A in 2000 and several All Black trials.
