Wes Goosen

South African born Goosen moved to New Zealand aged 4 and after initially settling in Auckland, he made the move down to the capital.

After graduating from school he went on to play club rugby for Old Boys University as well as playing for the Wellington U19s side who won the national title in 2014. The Wellington College old boy is a young player with plenty of power and pace who is capable of playing in the midfield or on the wing.

Goosen was a New Zealand Schools representative in 2013 and scored a try in their 17-16 victory over Australia. He was also a member of the New Zealand U20s side which competed in the Oceania Championship in Australia in May 2015, however he didn't make the final squad for the 2015 World Rugby Under 20 Championship in Italy.

Goosen made his provincial debut for Wellington in 2014 in his first and only match of the season for the side. However he became a regular the following season and scored two tries in nine matches. Things just kept getting better for Goosen as he was an ever present in 2016, helping himself to 4 tries in 11 games.

Although not a named member of the Hurricanes squad in 2016, Goosen made his Super Rugby debut against the Reds at Westpac Stadium. It proved to be a memorable first match for the 20-year old, scoring with his first touch of the ball in the 14th minute to help his side record a comfortable 29-14 win. He then made one further substitute appearance that year.

Goosen impressed the coaching staff enough to graduate to the full squad in 2017 and made his first start on the wing against the Waratahs in round seven.
