Bio

Ben Lam is one of those players who seems to have been around forever despite his age.

With size and speed to burn he burst onto the scene in 2012 after two years impressing for the Grammar Carlton Club in Auckland.

By the end of the year he had starred for Auckland's provincial team, played his first Investec Super Rugby match for the Blues and secured a New Zealand sevens contract.

Lam had been tagged as a talented athlete at St Peter's College where he excelled in track, particularly the 100m sprint where he ran under 11 seconds.

He would carve out a reputation as a destroyer on the World Sevens Series and won a Commonwealth Games silver medal in Glasgow in 2014.

However, a number of serious knee injuries have stymied his progress in the fifteen man game.

Lam comes to the Hurricanes after recovering from his latest injury and if preseason is anything to go by, could be set for a big year in 2017.
