Jordie Barrett helps set up Hurricanes dominant win over Chiefs

Fullback Jordie Barrett scored two early tries to help set the Hurricanes up for a dominant 47-19 win over the Chiefs at Westpac Stadium on Saturday night.

Barrett, who has filled a number of positions in the backline this season, was in devastating form as he cut the Chiefs open within minutes of the round 11 Investec Super Rugby match on a windy Wellington night.

When Kane Le'aupepe crashed over from close range the Hurricanes had a 21-0 lead.

To their credit the Chiefs came right back into the match as they scored two tries to drag the margin back to seven points.

However, the Hurricanes scored another long range try through captain TJ Perenara to extend their lead to 28-12 at the break.

For the Chiefs to get back into the match they really needed to be the first to score in the second half, something they achieved through Lachlan Boshier.

But the Hurricanes once again showed their character as they hit back with some well taken tries to Wes Goosen and Ardie Savea, the latter finishing off a 80m effort which was started by a quality turnover.

Debutant Salesi Rayasi then scored with his first touch as the Hurricanes picked up five points for just the second time this season.

They now prepare to host the Rebels at Westpac Stadium next Saturday with an early 5.15pm kick-off.

Hurricanes 47 (Jordie Barrett 2, Kane Le'aupepe, TJ Perenara, Wes Goosen, Ardie Savea, Salesi Rayasi tries; Beauden Barrett 6 con) Chiefs 19 (Luke Jacobsen, Ataata Moeakiola, Lachlan Boshier tries; Marty McKenzie 2 con). HT: 28-12
