CANES 2018: By The Numbers

The 2018 Investec Super Rugby season almost mirrored the year before for the Hurricanes after they were beaten in the semi-finals by the defending champion Crusaders.

The Hurricanes 2018 season would still be the envy of many clubs in the competition, especially the period when they went 10 matches unbeaten from March 3 through to May 18.

There were a number of notable victories in that period, including wins over the Crusaders, Highlanders and Chiefs, while there was a thrilling end to their win over the Sharks in Napier.

By season’s end the Hurricanes had won 12 of their 18 matches, including a 32-31 victory over the Chiefs in their quarter-final at Wellington’s Westpac Stadium.

In all, the Hurricanes scored 78 tries in their overall total of 562 points while they conceded 465 points.

Membership remains strong at the club with 6,672 signing on in 2018 while the club attracted an average crowd of 15,269.

The Hurricanes remain hugely popular on social media with more than 280,000 followers on Facebook, 153,000 on Instagram and a Twitter following of 56,300 – all positive increases on 2017.

In just over a month 2019 memberships will go on sale on September 3, with fans able to register to receive on sale details by emailing [email protected]

The 2019 Hurricanes squad will then be announced in early November ahead of their pre season campaign.
