Dean Anglesey

Bio

Originally hailing from King Country, Dean Anglesey was twice responsible for keeping the province in the NPC First Division in the 1990s. Against Hawke's Bay in 1993 and Southland in 1995 he scored the match-winning tries, both of which ensured their survival in the top flight.

But with the arrival of professional rugby he moved to the Chiefs and Waikato, scoring a try against the Hurricanes in his first Super 12 game in 1996. He made the Chiefs again in 1997 and was a first choice selection for Waikato in the 1997 NPC until injured in their eighth match - not before scoring a try in the game against his old team King Country.

He was drafted into the Hurricanes in 1998, before going on to forge out a career playing for Kobe Steel in Japan

Anglesey played internationals for Japan, including representing the Cherry Blossoms in a match against Wanganui in 2003, when Japan were in New Zealand at the Institute of Rugby in preparing for World Cup qualifying matches.

After hanging up his boots, Anglesey turned to coaching, where in 2007 he was coaching the King Country Rams in the Heartland Championship.
