Bill Cavubati

Prop

Bio

The world’s heaviest ever test player at 160kg, Bill Cavubati became a cult hero during five seasons for Wellington and two for the Hurricanes on account of his giant size and effervescent personality.

Cavubati played 38 tests for Fiji between 1995-2002 and again in 2004-2005, including two tests against the All Blacks in 1997 and 2002. He was also involved in the combined 2004 Pacific Islands team that played a series of matches against New Zealand, Australia and South Africa.

Although dogged by criticism for a lack of mobility around the field, Cavubati was a mainstay in the Hurricanes in their first two seasons, following a storming 1995 when he was the top try scorer for Wellington with 13 tries. Previously, Cavubati had emerged in 1993 and was an All Black trialist that year. Cavubati also held the Fijian shot put record for more than a decade.
