Christmas Cheer from the Hurricanes
In their final week of pre-season camp before Christmas, the Hurricanes took time to enjoy the festive spirit with a public training to meet their fans, a visit to the Wellington Children's Hospital and lent a helping hand to the WellingtonCity Mission.
The week started with a public training session in Porirua to meet their fans. It was a beautiful day and there was a great turn out. This was the team's final public training before Christmas. Too see the photos click here.
On Wednesday the team headed to the Wellington Children's Hospital. The team at the Hospital have been fundraising money with their gingerbread houses. The boys had a gingerbread house decorating race - 3 teams, 10 minutes and not bad results! The atrium was full with staff, paitents and fans who watched and judged their decorating competition. The squad then went through the wards visiting the Cancer Day Ward and Children's Ward hoping to spread some Christmas cheer and see a few smiles. To round off the week, four of the team, Chris Smylie, Dane Coles, Mark Reddish and Jeremy Thrush helped the Wellington City Mission deliver Christmas hampers to families in need. The team and staff at the Hurricanes had all donated presents and food items a week earlier to help create these amazing hampers. Then on Friday 23 December the four Hurricanes visited some Wellington families with hampers of presents and food to help create a special Christmas. We were very lucky to be able to be involved with the Wellington City Mission - thank you for letting us share in the Christmas generousity of many Wellingtonians.
